MY STORY
TINA GORDON IS PROUD TO COME FROM THE ROMANY ON HER MOTHERS SIDE. AS A CHILD SHE LIVED IN MIDDLESEX, LONDON, SURREY AND KENT BEFORE THE FAMILY SETTLED IN SOUTHEND, ESSEX, ON THE THAMES ESTUARY.
SHE ATTENDED SOUTHEND COLLEGE OF ART AND DESIGN IN THE 1960'S STUDYING FINE ART AND GRAPHIC DESIGN.
AFTER LIVING IN NORTH ESSEX, SUFFOLK, SHROPSHIRE AND WALES SHE RETURNED TO SOUTHEND COLLEGE OF ART IN THE 1970'S TO STUDY CERAMICS.
AFTER RUNNING HER OWN SMALL STUDIO POTTERY FOR A FEW YEARS AND TEACHING ART AND CERAMICS IN ADULT EDUCATION IN ESSEX, SHE AND HER DAUGHTER MOVED TO A FARM IN WRINGTON, NORTH SOMERSET, CONVERTING AN OLD CHICKEN SHED INTO A STUDIO WHERE SHE RETURNED TO PAINTING AND TAUGHT ART & CERAMICS PRIVATELY FOR 5 YEARS. DURING THIS PERIOD TINA WORKED AT THE EVENING POST, BRISTOL, AS A COMPOSITOR AND PHOTOGRAPHIC SCANNER, AND TAUGHT ART AT THE BRISTOL FOLK HOUSE. AFTER TEACHING AT THE FOLK HOUSE FOR 15 YEARS SHE SPENT 10 YEARS AS MANAGER THERE BEFORE RETIRING IN 2009 TO CONCENTRATE ON PAINTING. TINA STILL LIVES AND WORKS IN NORTH SOMERSET.
'THE WEST COUNTRY IS VERY SPECIAL TO ME. THE LAND IS OLD AND SO MUCH OF IT IS AS IT SHOULD BE, PROTECTED TO A GREAT EXTENT FROM THE HORROR OF DEVELOPERS AND ENCROACHING CONCRETE, ALTHOUGH SADLY THIS IS HAPPENING MORE AND MORE, IT DOES STILL RETAIN ITS SENSE OF PLACE, ITS SENSE OF HISTORY, IT HAS MAGICAL QUALITIES AND AN ANCIENT SPIRITUAL ATMOSPHERE. THE SEVERN ESTUARY IS BEAUTIFUL, CHANGEABLE, DANGEROUS AND POWERFUL. WEST COUNTRY LANDSCAPES ARE VARIED, FROM MOORLAND, HILLS AND ROCKY GORGES TO THE WIDE, REFLECTIVE ESTUARY WATERS AND EXPANSIVE SKIES. I PAINT WHERE I LIVE, WHAT I AM SURROUNDED BY. I TRY TO CAPTURE IN PAINT & MIXED MEDIA SMALL PIECES OF THE COLOUR, SHAPE, TEXTURE AND ATMOSPHERE THAT I AM INSPIRED BY AND AM LUCKY ENOUGH TO LIVE ALONGSIDE.'
ANY WORK NOT MARKED SOLD IS GENERALLY FOR SALE. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN PRICES OR HAVE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS PLEASE LEAVE A MESSAGE AND I WILL GET BACK TO YOU AS SOON AS I CAN.
